1. 8th National Voters Day - 25 January

The theme of the National Voters’ Day 2018 is ‘Accessible Elections’.January 25th is the foundation day of the Election Commission, which came into being on this day in 1950. The significance of National Voters’ Day is to encourage more young voters to take part in the political process. It is a day to celebrate the right to vote and vibrant democracy of India.

3. UP Cabinet approves 'one district, one product' scheme

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved 'one districtone product' scheme to promote products indigenous to every district. `One district One Product' scheme would create over 20 Lakh jobs in the state and would help in stemming the migration of the unemployed youth from the state.

4.Japan commits loan of 45 billion yen for Bengaluru water project

The Government of Japan has committed Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Official Development Assistance loan for an amount of Yen 45 billion (Rs 2587 crore approx) for Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Project (Phase 3) (I). The project will provide residents of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) area with a safe water supply and sewerage services.

5. Women and Child Development(WCD) Ministry Launched SAG( Scheme for Adolescent Girls) Scheme (earlier named as Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls)


Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Shri Rakesh Srivastava launched the Phase -1 i.e. the beneficiary module of the Rapid Reporting System for the Scheme for Adolescent Girls - a web based on line monitoring for the Scheme for Adolescent Girls in New Delhi today.  This Portal has been developed in collaboration with National Informatics Centre (NIC). The URL for the portal is http://sag-rrs.nic.in.
MoWCD is implementing the Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG) in selected 508 districts across the country

6.India Ranks 81st On Global Talent Competitiveness Index

Switzerland continues to top the list released every year on the first day of the 2018 World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting in Davos,Switzerland. India has improved its position from 92nd last year. India was at the 89th place in 2016 on the index that measures how countries grow, attract and retain talent.

7.Govt announces new banking roadmap, infuses Rs 88,139 crore

Centre will infuse Rs 88,139 crore — of which Rs 8,139 crore is through budgetary allocation — into the banks by issuing recapitalisation bonds this financial year.

The reform agenda is aimed at EASE – Enhanced Access and Service Excellence, focusing on six themes of customer responsiveness, responsible banking, credit off take, PSBs as Udyami Mitra, deepening financial inclusion & digitalisation and developing personnel for brand PSB. The overarching framework for the reforms agenda is “Responsive and Responsible PSBs”.

8. Prodigee Finance granted NBFC-ND license from RBI

Bhopal Based Prodigee Finance Limited recently crossed that milestone and received their NBFC license from RBI, making it possible for the firm to provide Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SME) loans.Prodigee Finance Limited Celebrates Getting NBFC-ND License from the RBI with the Help of Enterslice.
ND- indicates Non Deposit accepting NBFC.

9.112 Women Achievers Including India's First Female Autorickshaw Driver to be Honoured by President RamNath Kovind

Flying Officer Bhawana Kanth, Avani Chaturvedi and Mohana Singh of Indian Air Force’s first batch of female fighter pilots are also among the 112 women to be honoured. The list also includes Delhi’s first woman bus driver Vankadarath Saritha and India’s first female autorickshaw driver Shila Dawre. Sucheta Pal, first Indian to attain the position of Global Brand Ambassador for India as the Master Trainer in Zumba, also figures in the list of the 112 women achievers

10. ONGC borrows Rs 4000 crore from ICICI Bank for buying HPCL

State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) has borrowed Rs 4,000 crore from ICICI Bank on top of over Rs 18,000 crore it has taken from three other banks to part finance its Rs 36,915 crore acquisition of HPCL. ONGC to fund the acquisition of government's 51.11 per cent stake in Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL).

13.Veteran Communist leader Yashwant Chavan dies at 97
