1. Centre decide to construct 1,500 km pipeline in Assam to supply gas to northeastern states


  •  Centre has decided to connect all the eight NE states with  a1500-km-long pipeline to help industrialization in the region.
  • Dharmendra Pradhan, who attended the two-day Advantage Assam: Global Investors' Summit 2018, said ONGC, OIL, IOC, NRL and GAIL have formed a company for laying a gas pipeline for the eight states at estimated investment of Rs 6,000 crore.
  • GAIL will construct the pipeline for connecting Guwahati with the National Gas Pipeline Grid at Barauni in Bihar with an investment of Rs 3,000 crore. 
  • NRL's Diesel Hydrotreater (DHDT) plant set up an estimated cost of Rs 1031 Crore at the Global Investor Summit. The plant will produce high-speed diesel conforming to Euro-IV and Euro-VI standards.

2. Government makes PAN mandatory for entities in transaction over Rs 2.5 lakh.

  • Seeking to widen the tax base, the Budget for 2018-19 provided for making PAN mandatory for any entity entering into a financial transaction of Rs 2.5 lakh or more with effect from April 1,2018.
  • The 10-digit Permanent Account Number(PAN) would be used as Unique Entity Number for non-individuals to pay income tax.

4.  Allahabad Bank is the first Public Sector Bank to offer share to their employees.



  • City-based Allahabad Bank is aiming to raise Rs 2.5-2.7 billion (Rs 250-270 crore) from the employee share offer which started from January 31, 2018.
  • The bank is giving a 25 per cent discount on pricing at Rs 53.94 per share to the employees.
  • The bank is also planning to come out with a qualified institutional placement (QIP) in the third week of March to raise around Rs 10 billion.

India contributes $1 mn to UN Development Partnership Fund

  • India has contributed an additional $1 million to the India-UN Development Partnership Fund earmarked for South-South cooperation.
  • According to UN Office of South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) its aim to intensify its partnerships with other developing countries 

8. Global Buddhist peace festival title “Global Shanti: Amaravati Buddhist Heritage Festival” in Amravati, Andhra Pradesh.

  • Over 1,000 monks and artists from different countries will participate in the festival and a greater number of participants are expected to join for the global chant.

9. Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain appointed new chief justice of Bangladesh

  • Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, the second senior most judge of the Appellate Division, has been appointed as the new chief justice of Bangladesh.
  • Justice Hossain will be sworn in as the 22nd chief justice at Bangabhaban in Dhaka.

10. Veteran film maker Shyam Benegal awarded the V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award.

  • Veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal has been selected for the prestigious 'V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award' of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF-2018).
  • The award, carrying a trophy, a citation, shawl and cash prize of Rs 10 lakh, will be conferred on Benegal by Maharashtra Governor C.V. Rao at the MIFF 2018.

12. PM Modi pens book ‘Exam Warriors’, a stress-buster for students

  • PM Narendra Modi’s book compiling 25 mantras(Laugh in, laugh out) for the “exam warriors”, and with advises for parents and teachers, was released by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and HRD minister Prakash Javadekar.
  • This book has been published by Penguin India. It consists of 208 pages.

13. Maharashtra to set up transgender welfare board

  • Transgender Welfare Board (TWB) will finally see the light of day, with the Maharashtra government making a provision of ₹5 crore for welfare of the community.
  • It will look after education, employment, housing, and health schemes for transgenders and protect their Constitutional and human rights.
