1. Centre sanctions New Project to Control Pollution of River Sal at Navelin in Goa.


  • The Centre sanctioned a new project to control pollution in River Sal at Navelim town in Goa. The project was sanctioned by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change under the National River Conservation Plan and would cost of Rs. 61.74 crore.
  • Both the Centre and State will share the cost on 60:40 basis.
  • The project will help in reduction of pollution load in the river and improvement in its water quality, besides improving the environment and sanitation in the town.
  • Under the project, around 32 kms of sewers will be laid and sewage treatment plant of 3 million litres per day (MLD) constructed. The project is scheduled for completion by January, 2021.

2. Shi Yuqi glad to clinch India Open badminton men’s title after barren 2017.



  • China Shi Yuqi, the current world number eight, defeated Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen in the Indian Open badminton tournament 21-18,21-14 to win Men's Title.
  • Beiwan Zhang defeat P V Sindhu in the Indian Open badminton tournament 21-18, 11-21, 22-20 to women's title.
  • Indonesian pair of Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo won their fifth straight men's doubles title and third India Open after beating Kim Astrup and Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark.
  • Indonesian pair of Greysia Polii and Apriani Rahayu defeating Thailand's Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai 21-18, 21-15 in the women's doubles.

3. Vice President Naidu Inaugurates First International Kala Mela in New Delhi.

  • Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the First International Kala Mela (Art Festival) at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi.
  • Main objective of this festival is to facilitate direct interaction between artists and the experts of the art forms and also to raise awareness about the art.
  • This festival has been organised by Lalit Kala Akademi, India’s premier institution for the promotion of Art and Culture.

4. UP Government introduces mass marriage policy to discourage dowry.

  • UP Govt introduce mass marriage policy for poor girls to discourage the practice of dowry.
  • This scheme financial assistance of Rs 35,000 will be given at each wedding. 
  • A rehabilitation centre will come up in Gorakhpur's BRD Hospital campus for the disabled.

Japan Has Launched the Smallest Rocket Ever to Put a Satellite Into Orbit.

  • Japan's space agency has successfully put a microsatellite into Earth's orbit that was carried onboard an experimental mini-rocket.
  • Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, launched the rocket, one of the smallest in the world, from the Uchinoura Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan.

6. 6 February :- International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation.

  • Dyfed-Powys Police Supports the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)
  • The day is observed every year to eradicate the practice of female genital mutilation. It was first introduced in 2003.
  • Female genital mutilation (FGM) comprises all procedures that involve altering or injuring the female genitalia for non-medical reasons and is recognized internationally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women.
  • It reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes, and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women and girls. The practice also violates their rights to health, security and physical integrity, their right to be free from torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, and their right to life when the procedure results in death.

7. Uttar Pradesh's 'Taj Mahotsav' to revolve around Lord Ram.

  • Adityanath and Governor Ram Naik have been invited to attend the inauguration ceremony.
  • The Mahotsav, an annual 10-day event, which takes place at Shilpgram, will be inaugurated on February 18 by the UP chief minister.

8. Cyprus president Nicos Anastasiades wins run-off to land second term.

  • Nicos Anastasiades has won a second five-year term as president of the Republic of Cyprus.
  • He secured 56 percent on Sunday, comfortably ahead of his rival, Stavros Malas, a leftist-backed independent, at 44 percent.

9. President Ram Nath Kovind  to open “Udyanotsav” of Rashtrapati Bhavan tom.

  • President Ram Nath Kovind will open the annual “Udyanotsav” of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
  • The Mughal Gardens will remain open for the general public from February 6 to March 9.
  • The public will be able to visit the Spiritual Garden, Herbal Garden, Bonsai Garden and the Musical Garden. 
  • The special feature of this year’s Udyanotsav is bulbs flowering plants.

10. Mumbai airport becomes world’s busiest single-runway airport.

  • Mumbai airport created a new world record for single-runway operations by handling 980 arrivals and take-offs in 24 hours.
  • Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International airport bettered its own feat of 974 flights in 24 hours, recorded on December 6, 2017.

  • The United States lifts its ban on refugees from 11 "high-risk" countries.
  • It includes  include 10 Muslim-majority nations plus North Korea.
  • These countries are Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.
