1. Uttar Pradesh in association with UNICEF launches "DASTAK" campaign  to eradicate deadly Acute Encephalitis Syndrome(AES) and Japanise Encephalitis(JE) disease.


  • Uttar Pradesh, State government in association with UNICEF  launched massive door to door campaign DASTAK to eradicate deadly Acute Encephalitis Syndrome and Japanise Encephalitis disease in the state.
  • The war cry of DASTAK is Darwaja khatkhatao , Acute Encephalitis Syndrome(AES) aur Japanise Encephalitis(JE) ko bhagao.
  • In DASTAK campaign, Whole state machinery with the help of UNICEF will now literally go door to door in 38 JES and AE affected districts which mostly fall in the Tarai region of the state which contributes to about 60 percent of the total AES cases all over the country.

2. Former Australia bowler Doug Bollinger retires from cricket.

  • Bollinger played 12 Tests, 39 one-day internationals and nine T20s in an international career spanning 2009-2014. He bagged 50 Test wickets at an average of 25.92, 62 ODI wickets at an average of 23.9 and nine T20 scalps at 27.66.
  • Bollinger took five-wicket hauls against New Zealand in Wellington and West Indies in Perth and his Test scalps came at a strike rate of every 48 balls.

3. Sweden commits record $370m of aid to UN World Food Programme.
  • Sweden and the United Nations World Food Programme signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement committing an unprecedented $370 million dollars to World Food Programme (WFP).
  • The contribution for the period 2018-2021 is the biggest ever made by a donor within a WFP Strategic Partnership Agreement.

4.  Haryana government has launched the ‘Gobardhan Yojana’ to support farmers.

  • The Haryana government has launched the ‘Gobardhan Yojana’ to provide organic manure and cow urine with an aim to benefit farmers.
  • Under this scheme , a provision of Rs. 11 crore has been made to provide benefits of various projects  at a ‘Kisan Samman Samaroh’ in Nizampur village of Sonipat district.

5. Khelo India Games: Manipur’s Ormila Devi wins gold medal in weightlifting.

  • Konsam Ormila Devi of Manipur wins gold medal in the 44kg category at the Khelo India School Games competition at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi.

6. Four Indian sportspersons in Forbes India 30 Under 30 list.

  • Jasprit Bumrah(Cricket), Harmanpreet Kaur(Cricket), Savita Punia(Hockey) and Heena Sidhu(Shooter) made it to the list of Forbes India 30 under 30.

  • The list prepared by Forbes is based on three broad criterias: the extent of impact of their achievements, and their ability to disrupt the status quo, scalability of the business or line of work and their potential to stay a long-term player.

7. US Air Force Chief Flies In 'Made-In-India' Tejas Aircraft In Jodhpur.


  • General David L Goldfein, Chief of Staff of US Air Force flew in India's indigenous light combat aircraft, the Tejas in a special flight that took off from the Jodhpur Air Force Station, signalling the soaring ties between the two air forces.
  • The US Air Force chief was accompanied by Air Vice Marshal AP Singh as co-pilot during the 40-minute sortie. 
  • General Goldfein is the first foreign chief commander to fly in the multi-role light fighter, which is being pitched as the replacement of the ageing MiG-21 aircraft.

8. CRPF crowned Senior Women Hockey champions.

  • Central Reserve Police Force were crowned as champions of the 8th Hockey India Senior Women National Championship 2018 (B Division) after defeated Kerala Hockey by a margin of 7-0 in the final match of the competition in Ranchi, Jharkhand.

9. Maratha Light Infantry Regiment to celebrate 250th raising day on 4 February.

  • Maratha Light Infantry Regiment of Indian Army will celebrate its 250th raising day on February 4 across the country.
  • Maratha Light Infantry Regiment (MLIR) is one of the oldest and most decorated regiment of the Indian Army.
  • This is the only regiment of the Indian Army from which two units of Special Forces have been drawn, namely 2nd and 21st Battalions of Parachute Regiment.

10. First-ever Pelican Bird Festival held at Atapaka Bird Sanctuary.

  • ‘Pelican Bird Festival-2018’ was held at the Atapaka Bird Sanctuary on Kolleru Lake, in Andhra Pradesh.

11. Google launches #SecurityCheckKiya campaign to safeguard internet users.


  • Google has launched #SecurityCheckKiya campaign which aims at promoting security awareness among general public.
  • The campaign which was launched on Safer Internet Day(6 February) targets not only youngsters and new users but also internet savvy users, and advises them to take a three-step action to ensure their security settings.
  • It outlines basic steps users can take to protect themselves from account hijacks, safeguard Android devices from malware, and secure personal data in the event of a device loss.

12. Ola inks MOU with government of Assam to pilot app-based river taxi service .

  • Ola has inked MOU with Government of Assam to pilot an app-based river taxi service in Northeast India's financial hub Guwahati.
  • This bringing water taxis on the online platform, a localised and key mode of commute in the capital city will further strengthen the transportation ecosystem.
  • Ola will pilot high-speed taxis on the Lachit Ghat, Machkhowa to North Guwahati route, bringing the commute time down 2 to 5 minutes from 45 minutes by road.

13. CSE ranked Top Environment Policy Think Tank in India.
  • Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has been ranked the number one environment policy think tank in India.
  • The ranking was done by The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania.

14. India Successfully Test-Fires Short Range Nuclear Capable Ballistic Missile Agni-I.

  • India successfully test-fired its short-range nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-I with a strike range of over 700 km from a test range off the Wheeler Island(Dr Abdul Kalam Island) Odisha coast.
  • The indigenously developed surface-to-surface missile was launched as a part of a periodic training activity by the Strategic Forces Command or SFC of the Indian Army to consolidate operational readiness.
  • The Agni-I was developed by the Advanced Systems Laboratory or ASL in collaboration with the Defence Research Development Laboratory (DRDL) and the Research Centre Imarat (RCI). The missile was integrated by the Bharat Dynamics Limited, Hyderabad.

15. London Stadium to host new athletics World Cup 2018.

  • A new World Cup event featuring eight top nations will take place at the London Stadium on 14 and 15 July 2018.
  • The format of the inaugural World Cup event will feature all field and track events up to and including the 1500 metres, with teams led by female captains.
