1. Uttar Pradesh CM launches Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin In Naxal Affected Areas

Uttar Pradesh Cabinet cleared a new housing scheme to construct houses in rural areas for those, who have not been covered under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or those who are not beneficiaries of any other government housing schemes. 
Under the new scheme Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin, Rs 1.30 lakh financial aid will be given to people residing in Naxal-affected areas in the state, and Rs 1.20 lakh to selected beneficiaries.
UP Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin will also be extended to those families, who have been affected with Kala Azar or Japanese Encephalitis or those who belong to Vantangia or Musahar tribes and do not have houses or are living in “Kuchcha” houses.

2. India slips 10 ranks to 42 on democracy index

India has slipped to 42nd place on an annual Global Democracy Index amid “rise of conservative religious ideologies” and increase in vigilantism and violence against minorities as well as other dissenting voices.
Norway has again topped the list, followed by Iceland and Sweden, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), India has moved down from 32nd place last year and remains classified among “flawed democracies”.
The index ranks 165 independent states and two territories on the basis of five categories: electoral process and pluralism, civil liberties, the functioning of government, political participation and political culture. The list has been divided into four broad categories—full democracy, flawed democracy, hybrid regime and authoritarian regime.

3. India, ADB sign $250 million loan for rural road projects in five states

 India and the Manila- based Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a $250 million loan to finance the construction of 6,254 km of all-weather rural roads in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal under the flagship Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
“The First Tranche Loan is part of the $500 million Second Rural Connectivity Investment Program for India approved by the ADB Board in December 2017,”.
The program is aimed at improving rural connectivity, facilitating safer and more efficient access to livelihood and socio-economic opportunities for rural communities through improvements to about 12,000 kilometres Rural Roads across the 5 States.

4. India Ranks 6th in the List of Wealthiest Countries

 India has been ranked sixth in the list of wealthiest countries with total wealth of $8,230 billion, while the United States topped the list.
According to a report by New World Wealth, the US is the wealthiest country with total wealth of $64,584 billion, followed by China ($24,803 billion) and Japan ($19,522 billion).
Total wealth refers to the private wealth held by all the individuals living in each country/city. It includes all their assets (property, cash, equities, business interests) less any liabilities. 
According to the New World Wealth report, India was the best performing wealth market globally in 2017 as its total wealth rose 25% from $6,584 billion in 2016 to $8,230 billion in 2017. China’s wealth during the year saw an increase of 22% and global wealth rose by 12% (from $192 trillion at the end of 2016 to $215 trillion at the end of 2017).

5. Dr Harsh vardhan inaugurates high performance 

computing (HPC) facility named"Mihir" in Noida.

Union Minister for Earth Science, Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan has urged scientists and researchers to strengthen fundamental science and move towards solution science. Dedicating to the nation, the High Performance Computer (HPC) System named ‘Mihir’ (meaning ‘Sun’) at the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) at Noida, UP.

HPC facility will be India’s largest HPC facility in terms of peak capacity and performance and will propel India’s ranking from the 368th position to around the top 30 in the Top 500 list of HPC facilities in the world.
India will now also be ranked 4th, after Japan, UK and USA for dedicated HPC resources for weather/climate community.

6. Navy launches third Scorpene class submarine 

INS Karanj

The Indian Navy’s third state-of-the-art Scorpene class submarine, INS Karanj, was launched by Reena Lanba, wife of Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba. The new submarine is named after the earlier Kalvari class INS Karanj, which was decommissioned in 2003.
Six Scorpene class submarines are being built under Project 75 by the Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL), Mumbai, under a $3.75 billion technology transfer signed in October 2005 with the Naval Group of France.

7. Syrian National Dialogue Congress kicks off 

in Russia

The Syrian National Dialogue Congress has kicked off in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, Russsia.
The main activities will take place at the Olympic Park media center during the day. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Presidential Envoy for Syria Alexander Lavrentyev are expected to address the opening ceremony. United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura is also attending the event.

8. Table Tennis Sharath Kamal Won his 8th Senior Table Tennis National Title.

Veteran Sharath Kamal beat top-seed Anthony Amalraj 4-1 to win the men's singles title for the eighth time, equalling the feat of Kamlesh Mehta at the 11Even Sports Senior Table Tennis Nationals in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Suthirta Mukehrjee from West Bengal emerged the new women champion, beating Hyderabad Nationals winner Manika Batra 4-3. Her maiden effort fetched Rs. 1.5 lakh and Manika received 50 percent less in prize money

9. Neelam Kapoor appointed director general 

of SAI(Sports Authority Of India)

Senior bureaucrat Neelam Kapoor was today appointed director general of the Sports Authority of India (SAI).The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved her appointment to the post till her superannuation. Kapoor was the Principal Director General of the Press Information Bureau in the UPA government. As PIB chief, she was in-charge of information officers attached to every central government ministry.

10. Bihar Government sanctioned Rs 105 Crore 

for Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission

Bihar government  sanctioned Rs 105 crores for execution of various projects under Mahadalit Vikas Mission for the financial year 2017-18.

Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission would be given Rs 105 crores during the financial year 2017-18 for creation of its assets and implementation of various projects aimed at improving the condition of the most deprived section of the society.

11. State Bank Of India to launch credit card for farmers

The State Bank of India, through its subsidiary SBI Cards & Payments Services Pvt Ltd, will offer credit cards to farmers across the country.
The project has been initiated on a pilot basis in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.Unlike the Kisan Credit Card (KCC), the new credit cards for the farmers will have a credit limit with a credit period of 45 days. Currently, under KCC, beneficiaries (farmers) maintain loan accounts with the banks and the lenders offer them debit cards against this account.

POORTI (Platform for Online Ordering & Rural Transformation of India) was officially launched  in West Bengal as the first state. The initiative will be next introduced to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

12. Lt. Gen Anil Chauhan takes charge as DGMO of Indian Army
